Upgrades to the Food Railway

After weeks of planning, The DTM Team completedĀ a programme to upgrade and improve the food railway. The aims of the upgrade was to ensure that the chest minecarts that transfer food to the storage system under the bakery continue to run successfully. The first element of the upgrade was to add in a footbridge outside the furnace at EasilyConfused’s workshop. This is to remove the need to walk along the path of the railway when going underground.

The addition of a lowered six-foot (the walkway between the lines) footbridge also allows for people to walk under, even though it is 1.5 blocks tall. This allows maintenance teams to access the railway, should the need arise. The reason why the bridge could not be higher is due to the proximity of the roof to the road system and Far Village Line on the surface.

Further along the railway, a new access point has been added into the line from the obsidian hut. The obsidian hut has been able to monitor the operation of the food railway for some time, but a direct access link has not been present. This meant that to get access to the railway when a fault was detected involved walking to either the egg farm, or back to spawn at the mall or mineshaft building. This access is also equipped with note blocks to warn those entering the railway here of approaching carts.

To get up from the railway level to the ground floor of the obsidian hut, a staircase has been built. During the construction of the staircase, EasilyConfused only managed to fall down twice (a new record low). There was also an incident involving haddock1000 digging the shaft down, but forgetting to implement a way back up. After some quick thinking a ladder was temporarily installed up to the top, and the staircase carefully added in. A glass window was also put in at ground level to allow natural light in, as well as a chandelier.

To allow access into the hut itself, a ramp has been put in, and the railway that runs around it now climbs up over the top. To ensure that sufficient headroom is achieved the ceiling has been increased by 3 blocks.

An additional lamp and note block has been added fromĀ the railway system to the obsidian hut. This new detector rings whenever the hopper minecart under the iron farm enters or exits the unloading point onto the food railway. This detector has been installed because of a number of problems where the hopper minecart has mysteriously disappeared for unknown reasons. A note block has also been added under EasilyConfused’s tax Haven so that the system can be monitored from there.
